Did you know that bluegrass is actually an American form of music that developed its traditional sound by mixing traditional European folk music, African-American jazz and certain styles of blues music? It has rural roots as farmers and workers in the south created a “mountain” style of music with lyrics depicting rich, life experiences and an emotional, pure sound due to the variety of acoustic instruments used.
Bluegrass is simply a style of music that brings people from all ages and walks of life together. To celebrate music and provide the community with a fantastic summer event, the community of Chemainus, BC puts on the Chemainus Bluegrass Extravaganza & Festival and this year it will be taking place July 26-27, 2014. Get ready to sing, dance, tap your toes and jam to some great performers. The lineup this year is fantastic! You’ll be treated to:
Steep Ravine – a soulful group from San Francisco Bay that light up the stage with their instruments and have a truly riveting sound.
5 On a String – traditional bluegrass and some original tunes will come from this five-member band whose home base is right here in Vancouver.
Bluegrass Fever – playing with a banjo, guitar, mandolin and upright bass makes this band a true crowd-pleaser.
The Moon Riders – two talented musicians will accompany lead singer Sharon Dudka as the band brings some old-time country music.
Sit close to the stage or bring your lawn chairs and blankets and settle in for a great weekend filled with music.
