The Inner Harbour of Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island is truly a hub for activity, commerce, attractions and events. It is a beautiful waterfront area, anchored around a marina of yachts, sailboats and motorboats and located in the city centre of Victoria, BC. It is the perfect setting for an event such as the Victoria Symphony Splash. This annual event, which will take place August 3, 2014, will transform the harbour into a lively outdoor concert stage.
In 1990, the symphony wanted to celebrate its 25th anniversary and decided to play a concert on a barge off shore. Thousands of people showed up and now in its 25th year, The Victoria Symphony Splash has become one of the largest outdoor symphony events in North America—around 40,000 visitors from the area and all parts of the world will converge to appreciate the music and take part in the activities surrounding the event. It all takes place on a floating stage that is moored in the harbour.
The day will be filled with sensational musical acts, great food, and activities and it will end with the “pièce de resistance”: a live performance by The Victoria Symphony. Each year one or two talented soloists are also featured and then the concert will end with Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with bells, cannons, & fireworks. We are sure you will get goose bumps just listening to this incredible performance. Being surrounded by a gorgeous view just makes the whole event really special.
For families, there will be a fun Splash Family Zone where you can get your face painted, jump in the bouncy castle, explore the hands on art activities and crafts by Royal BC Museum and the Robert Bateman Centre and try your hand at all kinds of musical instruments.
If you plan on sitting on the Legislature lawn, bring a folding chair and a sweater or blanket because the wind off the water can make it a little chilly after sunset. If you are a kayak or canoe enthusiast you may get the best seat in the house if you are up for getting out on the water. You can moor your craft near the barge and listen to it all right from the water! For more information, visit the event website.
