Prancing Horse Retreat: A Gothic Experience!

Imagine getting away from it all in your own private world! Prancing Horse Retreat is a red-roofed Gothic Victorian villa filled with elegant antique furnishings. As a private guest, your suite welcomes you with a tray filled with fresh flowers, Aveda bath, Bernard Callebaut chocolate and a bottle of wine in a silver ice bucket. Each suite has its own private four-piece bath, TV, VCR, coffee maker and fridge. Some of the suites have fireplaces and private decks. A full gourmet breakfast topped with champagne, freshly squeezed orange juice, fruit and fresh baked muffins, are served on the spacious patio or dining room to start the day.

Guests enjoy their own private entrance so that they can come and go as they please. Each suite provides a spectacular view and the ground level ones are easily accessed by guests in wheelchairs. The prancing Horse is privately owned and is gaining a reputation among discerning travelers for five star accommodation and a view that rivals its neighbor at a fraction of the price!

“We wanted to offer our guests a romantic, affordable retreat with Ferrari standards”, commented Elaine and Alan Dillabaugh, when revealing how their two year young B&B acquired its name. It is obvious that Elaine and Alan, with their background in automotive service (also owner of the Prancing Horse Auto Body in Audley Street), know a lot about Ferraris.

The Prancing Horse Retreat is home to Victoria’s Ferrari Club. If you are a motor enthusiast or a small corporate group of ten or less, this is a special, ideal meeting place. The prancing Horse Retreat is located approximately 25 minutes north of Victoria. Follow the Trans Canada Highway and the turn off at the Spectacle Lake Provincial Park, exit and look for the Prancing Horse Retreat sign.

The view alone makes guests feel as though they are situated on top of the world. The Prancing Horse Retreat commands a sweeping view of Finlayson Arm, and in the distance, the snowcapped peaks of the Olympic Mountains. The European-style villa seams perfectly suited to the natural paradise that surrounds it. Gnarled arbutus and rock hugging firs provide a backdrop to the colorful garden where a terraced rockery leads to a multi-tiered deck hosting an inviting hot tub and gazebo. Guests, as their relax on the patio, can experience deer meandering through the property, jack rabbits scurrying to their burrows, colorful hummingbirds, stellar jays, doves, quail and even eagles.

The Aerie Resort, located across the street, offers fabulous dinners by international chefs, in in-house spa and other amenities that guests from the Prancing Horse are welcomed to utilize as they please. Even the heli-pad is available for guests with time restrictions.

Other activities are plentiful without venturing too far afield. For those whole like to brew, seven kilometers down the road in the town of Mill Bay, Merridale Estate Cidery provides opportunities to sip a sample of cider. Utilizing several apple varieties, this unique kind estate cidery in BC offers a taste for every palate. If wine is more your thing, Cherry Point Vineyards is nearby. For those who like to golf, there are two golf courses within a 20-minute drive. For year around enjoyment, try fishing, sailing, rail tours, hiking, or horseback riding.
