The hustle and bustle around Vancouver Island during the summer is definitely contagious. It is so fun to see locals taking advantage of all that summer has to offer and seeing people from all over the world enjoy the beauty of our special area. As August is here and the summer season draws to a close, a bit of the busyness dies down. Families head back home to get kids ready for school and vacation time comes to an end.
For some now is the perfect time to make a trip to the island and to plan a stay at The Prancing Horse Retreat. When the season gets a little quieter there are fewer tourists and a little less busyness at the popular attractions around the island. This is a great time for our “silver travelers” who may enjoy an atmosphere that is a bit slower and quieter. Of course, just because summer may be ending soon, does not mean that there is any shortage of fantastic things to do and see.
A sample itinerary if you were to be with us during the week would start out with a chilled bottle of wine and freshly baked cookies and a fruit tray await you on your check-in. After a peaceful night’s sleep you will be met with an amazing gourmet breakfast. Champagne and fresh oj are available every morning often with fresh orange juice, pastries and seasonal fruit. We use our own farm fresh eggs and offer farm tours too if you are interested. Enjoying your breakfast on your own private deck that overlooks the Olympic Mountains is a memory you will cherish.
If you like to sample and learn about wine and are also interested in seeing more of the island, you can take a wine tour and visit Averill Creek Vineyard, Cherry Point Vineyards, Silverside Farm & Winery, and Venturi-Schulze Vineyards. Enjoy a delicious lunch at Bistro 161 and then finish the afternoon off with a relaxing sightseeing tour. Prancing Horse owner Elaine will be able to guide you to the best tours of the area that are close to the bed and breakfast. She can also suggest the best dining place for dinner should you have a favorite style you are looking to try. Finish the night with a cup of coffee in front of the fireplace or wind down in your luxurious double soaker tub.
