When 35,000 people from Victoria, Vancouver Island and around the world meet up with world-renown and local talented musicians, magic happens! The TD Victoria International Jazz Fest has continued its standard of excellence each and every year to where it is now a ten-day musical festival that is a true highlight of the summer.
Mark your calendars for June 20-29, 2014 as a culturally and musically diverse program prepares to take over Victoria. Whether you are looking for a show stopping concert, an intimate club setting, fantastic background music at a restaurant or a free show the whole family can attend, you will find something going on somewhere during these ten days. In addition to the music, you can also choose from several workshops that will be scattered throughout during the festival. Workshops where artists will discuss the fundamentals and history of music, their music inspirations, the approaches to improvisation, how the blues has impacted jazz today and the demands and challenges of different genres of music. What a treat to get an inside look into how where it all starts, how it all ends and all that is in between.
In all you will be exposed to 85 stunning performances, over 320 musicians in 71 bands from around the world, including artists from Japan, Cuba, Finland, Norway, Scotland, England, Benin, South Africa, Australia, the United States, and across Canada. A few of the highlights include Hiromi “The Trio Project”, Bobby McFerrin, Angélique Kidjo, and Cassandra Wilson.
Just a short, beautiful drive from the festivities is The Prancing Horse Retreat bed and breakfast—a breathtaking Victorian Villa in Malahat, BC.
